We have the yummiest of Spaetzle recipes, which will become family favourites. From vegetarian recipes to Meat and gravy to gluten – free, all taste delicious with Spaetzle.

There are several ways of preparing Spaetzle for the table.

  • Making a batter and simmering on the stove. Ready to serve with meat and gravy.
  • Going one step further and after draining, fry in a little oil or butter and serve with perhaps a sprinkle of parsley on top, or fried onions, chopped ham and grated cheese. With a side salad, this is a complete meal in a jiffy.
  • Putting ‘something’ into the batter and then simmer on the stove. Eg. Mashed pumpkin, carrot or finely chopped spinach, herbs and spices. This can then be fried lightly.
  • Making a traditional batter, then frying the cold spaetzle in oil to resemble chips.
  • Dropping the batter into oil instead of water, then serve as either a sweet or savoury fried puff. Doughnuts or cheese/ham savouries.

Hopefully these recipes will give you a starter’s guide to what can be done with spaetzle and you are only limited by your imagination and taste buds.

GLUTEN FREE

Just about every recipe can be substitued with gluten free flour. The difference is in the actual spaetzle maker itself. the Silit Profi can only be used with wheat flour while the Nannas paddle is suitable for both wheat and gluten free flour.
